Employment Policies
By 1933, Germany was under Nazi control. It was arguably stronger than ever as a nation, however there was one factor standing in their way to success, and that happened to be the most crucial one: the economic factor. The unemployment rates were sky high, as seen on the graph above, the unemployment rate in the first year Hitler took over (1933) was about 30% of the population, now THAT'S a LOT. This is when Hitler's wit comes into use. He first of all decides that it's best for women not to work, and after pushing women off their work, it opened up more job opportunities which men had filled in by replacement. Secondly, he decided that division of labour would be important in a factory so that everyone has work to do, and that is also the reason why unemployment rates had gone down so much.
Yet besides the unemployment rates, Hitler was more worried about the Trade Union, the all fairness towards salary paying workers, and international trade. So in 1933, Hitler banned the trade unions in Germany, instead he set up his own DAF (German Labour Front), which has a role to make sure that each worker was doing their best to serve the best interests of the Nazi regime. The DAF could control the power of the employers and it sets out employment rights now and then for workers, factories etc. It also fixed the average working hours per week, with an increase of 6 more hours. Not only did they have this power, they also had the right to punish individual or a group of workers for not working for the best interest of the Nazi regime. Although this all might seem extremely unfair, but at least each worker had shelter IF they worked hard, each worker would get meals IF they worked hard, so Hitler smartly ensured that the Nazi regime would be reached while at the same time the unemployment rates would go down too and he doesn't even have to pay the workers as much money as Germany did before the big change in employment policies.
From the earnings from money saved to pay the workers, they had more money to purchase military weapons. In 1933, only 3.5 billion marks were spend on weapons, yet in 1939, 26 billion marks were spent. And because of the need of iron, steel and plastic materials for making weapons, these industries have also increased in their total revenue. For example the production of plastic increased by 460%, or 4.6 times in the 1930s! Because of the mass purchase of weapons, it allowed the German army to build up in numbers, from 100,000, to 500,000, untill it reached 9 hundred thousand men in 1939. Because of the chain effect this (Rearmament) brought, the Germany economic quickly aroused from the dead and debt it was suffering in the early years of 1930s. Overall, the policies Hitler had made during the years 1933-39 had benefited the German economy a whole heap, and now Germany is officially stronger than ever as a nation and as an economic block.
